Wayne Gene Olson

Cornell, WI Wayne Gene Olson, age 63, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family, loved ones, and his dogs on July 14, 2023 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on May 18, 1960 in Chicago, IL to Clarence E. and Evelyn S. (Wager) Olson. In 1999, Wayne married Teri L. Mercer.

Wayne was cofounder of Azize Rhodesian Ridgebacks, President of the Minnesota Coursing Association, an AKC and ASFA lure coursing judge, and a City LTL driver for FedEx freight. He was beloved by his family and many friends, who are grateful for the time they got to spend with him and the influence he had on their lives. He will be missed for his sense of humor, his impressive voice, his steadfast character, and his joyful attitude.

Wayne is survived by his wife: Teri Olson of Cornell, WI; five sons: Erik Olson of Sun Prairie, WI and grandson Brody Vore, Alex Olson of Peoria, IL, Rob (Carol) Olson of Rosemount, MN, Tim Olson of Burns Harbor, IN and Ryan Olson of Deland, FL; adopted daughter: Carrie (Ed) Woodville of Deland, FL; and sister, Jan (Tony) Baranek of Worth, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence “Larry” and Evelyn Olson.

A special thanks to friend and “coursing wife” Shellie Marvin and the rest of their coursing community for all their care and support through this time.

An open-house Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10am to 4pm at his home, 21690 County Hwy E, Cornell. All who knew him are welcome to attend. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family with arrangements.
