Obituary for Wallace Richard Boehm

Wallace Richard Boehm, 84, of Bloomer died Saturday morning, October 11, 2008 at Hetzel Care Center, Bloomer. He was born March 12, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Richard and Fern (Yakish) Boehm. Wally graduated from New Auburn High School with the Class of 1942 and entered into the United States Army on April 18, 1946. He served in World War II as a Technician Fourth Grade in the 3186th Signal Service Battalion. While in the service he worked as an automotive mechanic. He married Florence Schwersinske June 28, 1947 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Bloomer.
He worked at Hamm’s Dairy in Rudolph, Wis. before moving to Bloomer. He operated a fuel oil route for Chieftain in the Bloomer area. He also worked at the Farmers Store in both Bloomer and Colfax, was a truck driver out of Chippewa Falls for Packerland Packing Co., operated the Pile Inn Bar together with his wife, hauled trailer houses all over the United States for Morgan Drive-A-Way, drove school bus for the Bloomer School District, and was a truck driver for AJ Industries up until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Bloomer VFW, Colfax American Legion, Siren Order of the Moose and was a Little League coach. Wally loved being around people and especially enjoyed sharing his little “trick” toys wherever he went, as well as fishing and hunting.
Wally especially enjoyed visits by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by three of his four children: Thomas (DeAnne), Council Bluffs, Iowa; Daniel (Judy), La Crosse, Wis.; Candyce (Michael) Sarauer, Bloomer; grandchildren: James Boehm, Eau Claire, Jason (Renee) Boehm, Elk Mound, and Lynn Yeager, Boyceville; Adam (Stacey) Boehm, Cornell, and Scott (Melissa) Boehm, Chippewa Falls; Bryan (fiancé Janelle Tice), Chippewa Falls; Jacob Prince, Bloomer; and Amanda (Nicholas) Quinn, Eau Claire; and 12 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence; son, Ronald; and uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Bloomer, with Fr. James Arthur presiding. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 PM. Burial will be in the North Catholic Cemetery with military graveside services performed by the Bloomer American Legion & VFW.
