Obituary for Vernon P. Kellen

Vernon P. Kellen, age 84, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. He was born on March 17, 1926 to Aloysius and Josephine (Michaelis) Kellen in Faulkton, SD. He served proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He married Donna Nelson on April 15, 1947 in Bloomer. Vernon was a farmer and a carpenter for most of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Bloomer Moose Lodge, was the Bloomer town chairman for 30 years, a member of the New Auburn American Legion, a 4-H leader and on the Chippewa County Board as Supervisor for many years. Vernon loved being around people and was very proud of his family and spent countless hours with them. In his free time he would play cards, mow lawns, and go fishing. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Donna; five sons Vernon Jr. of Rochester MN, Mike (Patty) of New Auburn, Dan (Sue) of Bloomer, Dennis (Vickie) of New Auburn, & Tom (Kathy) of Oregon; two daughters: Debbie (John) Knight of New Auburn & Mary (John) Ruf of Bloomer; two brothers Michael (Rosemary) Kellen of West Allis WI, and Eldred (Jean) Kellen of Eau Claire; one sister: Madonna (Art) Seibel of Bloomer; one sister-in-law Helen Kellen of Bloomer; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way), numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son: Steven Kellen; Brother Aloysius; grandson: Mike Kellen II, granddaughter: Denise Kellen

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Bloomer Assembly of God with Pastor Dale Smalley officiating. Interment will be in the New Auburn Cemetery with the New Auburn American Legion performing military rites. There will be a visitation on Friday, March 18, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer with a Moose Service at 7:30. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
