Obituary for Thomas L. "Tom" Larson

Former Wisconsin State Representative, Tom Larson, age 69, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Dove Healthcare in Bloomer, after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 11, 1948 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Wallace H. and Phyllis (DeLong) Larson. He was a 1966 graduate of Colfax High School and attended Chippewa Valley Technical College. On February 18, 1967, Tom married Mary Ann Nelson in Elk Mound, Wisconsin. Before assuming his office as Wisconsin State Representative for the 67th District, Tom worked in many trades and occupations such as farming, heavy equipment operator, metal fabricator, machinist and commercial driver. Most recently he owned and operated Bear Valley Electric from 1991 to 2010. He was a master electrician and licensed lighting designer. He was a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, Chippewa Valley Homebuilders, ABC of Wisconsin, Colfax Kiwanis Club, NRA, National Federation of Independent Business, and Chippewa Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Tom was elected to the 67th Assembly District in 2010 and served three terms, retiring due to health concerns. He was the chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Family Law, championed professional licensure legislation and was an advocate for veterans. He received a Patriot Award from the Wisconsin Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency which “seeks to promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees.” In his free time Tom loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, tractor pulls, traveling and spending time with his family, friends and constituents.
He is survived by his wife: Mary of Colfax; Son: Roger (Athena) Larson of Colfax and their children: Remington, Hunter, Citori Larson and Stephanie (Derek) DeCarolis; Son: John (Jenney) Larson of Elk Mound and their son: Daniel Larson; Son-in-law: Todd (Michele) Ronnander of Alaska and his children Mikhail (Danny), Mercedes and Hattie Ronnander; brother: Richard (Laurel) Larson of Eau Claire and sister: Violet Jarvis of Colfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Wallace and Phyllis Larson, brother: Joe Larson, and his daughter: Cynthia Ronnander.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 4:00 PM at the Bloomer Baptist Church located at 2620 Duncan Road, with Pastor Eldon Carlson officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 PM until the time of service, 4:00 PM, at the church. Olson Funeral home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
