Obituary for Shirley Ann Schmidt (Luedtke)

Bloomer Shirley Ann Schmidt, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2012 at Luther (Mayo) Hospital in Eau Claire. She was born on May 6, 1943 in Fort Benning GA to Roy and Charlotte (Gray) Luedtke and was raised in Fond du Lac WI. On March 24, 1962 in Fond du Lac, she married Rodney John Schmidt of Edgerton WI. They lived in Fond du Lac until 1967 when they moved to Bloomer. She was a homemaker, child care provider in her home, Sunday school teacher and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Shirley faced polio as a child, Guillain Barre’ Syndrome as a young mother and fought multiple sclerosis for over twenty five years. Throughout all the challenges and difficulties in her life, Shirley never lost her faith or courage. Her strength was an example to anyone who knew her. Her joy was her family.

She is survived by her husband: Rod Schmidt, Sr., of Bloomer; three children: Nadine (Jim) Bresina of Tilden, Michelle (Richard) Gasper of Bloomer and Rod, Jr. “R.J.” (Sandy) Schmidt of Eau Claire; six grandchildren: Nichole (Dominic) Paull, Matthew Bresina, Adam Bresina, Travis Gasper, Breanna Gasper and Samantha Schmidt; step-granddaughter: Grace Kressin; three great-grandchildren: Braxton, Brady and Aubree Paull; three sisters: Sharon (Bernard) Karls of Malone WI, Jeri Hickey of North Fond du Lac WI and Bobbie (Larry) Seyfert of South Byron WI; three half-brothers: Gary, Dean and Dennis Luedtke; one sister-in-law: Rojean (Marvin) Hansen of Edgerton WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law and several aunts and uncles.

There will be a private service for the family at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
