Shirley M. Albrecht, age 95, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at Dove Healthcare in Bloomer WI. She was born January 24, 1924 in Ladysmith WI, the daughter of Herman and Rena (Beck) Stiehm of Catawba WI. She attended school in Catawba through her sophomore year and graduated from Phillips High School, graduating in 1940. Shirley attended Price County Normal School in Phillips, graduating in 1942. She taught one year at the Excelsior School near Phillips. Despite coming from a family of teachers, Shirley decided this was not the profession for her and went on to become a bookkeeper. She worked in this and related fields until she retired in 1980, The last ten years she was employed as a bookkeeper and assistant office manager at Thrifty Oil Company in California.
Shirley was married to Robert E. Reed of Hollidaysburg PA in 1944 at the Charleston Navy Base in South Carolina. They were later divorced. On October 19, 1957 while living in Orlando FL she was married to Lee H. Albrecht of Bloomer WI. Shirley was an avid reader and loved to travel. Lee and Shirley spent 21 years in Orlando and Rockledge FL before returning to Bloomer in 2008.
She is survived by her niece: Shirley (James) Hinke of Phillips WI; grand-niece: Carrie (Brandon) Quinn of DePere WI; grand-nephew: Jeremy Hinke of Brookings SD; great-grandnephews: Carter, Aaron and Micah Quinn of DePere WI; other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Lee Albrecht on June 12, 2019; parents: Herman and Rena (Beck) Stiehm; brother: Donald Stiehm; sister: Floy (Raymond) Sand; step-son: Sgt Michael K. Albrecht.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer with Pastor Bob Otto officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer. The family would like to thank the staff at Dove Healthcare and Mayo Hospice for their loving care of Shirley.
