Sharon Van Valkenburg, age 91, passed away at Our House Senior Living in Chippewa Falls WI on April 18, 2026, with family at her side.
Sharon was born on February 6, 1935, to Alfred ("Allie") and Lena Henneman in Bloomer, WI. She was married for 72 years to her high school sweetheart, John “Jack” Van Valkenburg.
Together, Sharon and Jack built a family dental practice in Bloomer. She was office manager of the J.F. Van Valkenburg Dental Office for 38 years. Sharon competently attended to all the details of the practice and made a special effort to provide the kids with a comfortable experience, including a fun "surprise drawer" that people still remember today.
Sharon was devoted to her family. She loved nothing more than gathering her family at her home or the cottage and hosting holidays with lots of good food, special desserts, and fun. Her home was always welcoming and her family felt special and loved. Her home and the cottage were the favorite places to go for many family members of numerous generations. She continued hosting into her eighties. Beyond her home, Sharon was dedicated to attending her children and grandchildren’s events and achievements.
Sharon was also a good friend and often gave of her time and help to those in need. She was community minded, and a compassionate, generous and giving volunteer. She regularly went the extra mile to help others. Sharon participated in many community fund raisers including those for the Bloomer Hospital and the Bloomer Aquatic Center. She also volunteered in many community events and was a volunteer at the Bloomer Hospital and the Maplewood/Dove Nursing Home. Sharon was an especially active member of the First Congregational Church for many years.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her sisters: Lucille ("Lou") Ewald, Ione Nichols and Donna Gress; sister-in-law: Doris Berryhill Granger; and in-laws: Floyd and Anne Van Valkenburg.
She is survived by her husband: Jack Van Valkenburg, D.D.S., of Bloomer; children: Michael Van Valkenburg (Janeen) of Fergus Falls MN, Mary Van Valkenburg (Pat Hohmann) of Onalaska WI; grandchildren: Christopher Hohmann (Megan), Samantha Hohmann, Jason Van Valkenburg (Natalie), Emma Koza (Nik), Ahna Van Valkenburg; great grandchildren: William, Benjamin, and Grace Van Valkenburg; Jack, Henry, and Samuel Koza; Harper Hohmann; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be a visitation at the First Congregational Church in Bloomer from 1:00PM – 3:00PM on Saturday, April 25, 2026 with a Memorial Service at the church at 3:00 PM. Inurnment will be held at the Bloomer Cemetery. A luncheon will be at the White Pine Pavilion following the burial. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
