Sandra Lee "Sandy" Nelson (Ziebell)

Sandra L. “Sandy” Nelson, age 67, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of St. Croix Hospice. She was born November 20, 1947 in Chippewa Falls to Earl and Margaret (Rubenzer) Ziebell. She graduated from Bloomer High School in 1965 and married Duane D. Nelson on October 30, 1965 in Bloomer. To this marriage three daughters were born. Sandy was a stay-at-home mom, taking care of her family and friends children until her youngest left the nest. She attended WWTC in LaCrosse where she received a CNA certificate. She was employed at the Area Nursing Home in Colfax and was involved in creating the “Mini Bloom Wing” for Alzheimer’s residents. Sandra suffered a stroke in August of 1998 and was no longer able to work as a CNA. In November of 1998, Sandra received a Nursing Assistant Award from the Alzheimer’s Association for her exceptional dedication and care for individuals with Alzheimers. Sandra’s family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She was known to her grandchildren as Nana Nelson. She enjoyed watching her grand and great-grandchildren grow and seeing them at holiday get-togethers. She always had an ear to listen to her family when they needed her and would offer advice only when asked for it.

She is survived by three daughters: Rhonda (Lee) Cook of Colfax, Lisa (Greg Seehaver) Nelson of Colfax and Michelle (Jessie Hoff) Laufenberg of Alma Center; Grandchildren: Kayla, James, Courtney, Brock and MacKenzie; great-grandchildren: Kaydyn, Farrah, Nika, Dalton and Cayden with one more on the way due May of 2015; Sisters: Donna White, Margie Geissler, Rosie Zwiefelhofer and Kay Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Earl and Margaret; husband: Duane; Sister: Beverly Meyer; infant brother; brothers-in-law: Keith Geissler, Stanley White and George Meyer; Father & Mother-in-law: Lawrence and Helen Nelson; Nephew: Larry Nelson Special Friend: Clyde.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer with a visitation from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will be in the North Running Valley Cemetery.
