Russell L. Hoel, age 87, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at his home in Cameron. He was born on December 18, 1929 to Louis “Herb” and Ruby (Ermatinger) Hoel in Cornell WI. He married Bernice E. Black on April 26, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War and enjoyed working as a heavy equipment operator, which he continued to do until shortly before his death. He was a long time member of the Operating Engineers Union and was elected by a write in vote as the Salem Town Chairman in the 1980s. He was a big Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, his friends and his dogs.
He is survived by children: Ronald (Char Kelps) Hoel of Kenosha WI, Karen (Jimmy) Sullivan of Kenosha WI, Cindy (Ron) Parker of Kenosha WI, Gary (Dawn) Hoel of Orlando FL, Mary (Dean) Winchester of Heiskell TN; sister: Muriel Fox; brother: Louie (Diane) Hoel; significant other: Linda Swant; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Herb and Ruby Hoel; his wife, Bernice, in 1998; sister: Artis Himple; daughter-in-law: Lori Hoel; and son-in-law: Charles Bringman.
Funeral services will be Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:00 PM with a visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 PM before the service. Interment will take place on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner.
