Orah “Louise” Toycen, age 89, passed away at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer on Saturday February 4, 2012. She was born on February 14, 1922 to Guy and Pansy (Burford) Legate in Missouri. She married Paul Toycen on September 6, 1942. Paul and Louise lived in Barrington, IL for 35 years and formed many enduring relationships. After retirement, Paul and Louise moved to rural Sand Creek and then to Bloomer in 1997. She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and WELCA. Louise was a devoted wife, homemaker and an excellent seamstress. She actually tailored and sewed most of her and her husband Paul’s clothes. She was an active member of a group who knit hats for the soldiers, embroidered baptismal napkins, knit and quilted assorted items for newborns of the church. In her free time Louise enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, quilting and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister-in-law: Annette Legate; nephews and nieces: Roger Pierce, Marlene (Pierce) Onstad, John Pierce, Rebecca Crawford, and Mike Legate; two great nephews: Derek Pierce & James Toycen; two great nieces: Nicole Pierce & Geri Toycen; special cousins: Irene (Toycen) Hanson and her children Dr. Charles Hanson, Phillip Hanson, Julie (Hanson) Holmstrom and Elaine S. Toycen, the widow of LaVerne, and their children David L. Toycen, Susan (Toycen) Favero, Dr. Gail (Toycen) Weyerhaeuser and Daniel J. Toycen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Paul Toycen, brother: Guy Legate Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek on Friday February 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Barb Koch officiating. There will be a visitation from 4:00-6:00 PM at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on Thursday, February 9, 2012. Interment will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Sand Creek following the service.
