Norma J. Gilberts, age 85, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer. She was born July 19, 1926 in Menomonie to Conrad and Alvina (Grambo) Frogner. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1944 and then attended Lawrence University in Appleton WI. She worked in Menomonie for O & N Lumber and Farmer’s Insurance Company and also in Colfax at Erickson’s Super Market. She married Norman “Snort” Gilberts on June 21, 1947 in Colfax. Snort and Norma moved to Sand Creek in 1947 where they purchased the Sand Creek Grocery Store and Locker Plant. She also worked as the Sand Creek Postal Clerk, becoming the Postmaster for five years before she retired. She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, the Ruth Circle, WELCA, the Menomonie Order of the Eastern Star and the Dallas Ladies Golf League. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering for the Packers and the Badgers. Norma was a very active person who loved helping people and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband: Norman “Snort” of Sand Creek; one son: Dr. Mark Gilberts of Mundelein IL; one daughter: Dr. Cynthia Gilberts of Menomonie; one brother: Dr. David (Ethel) Frogner of Colfax; one sister: Mary (Glenn) Bowlin of Bloomington IL; two grandchildren: Megan (John) DeMotte of Cincinnati OH and Matthew Gilberts of Mundelein IL; one great-grandchild: Noah DeMotte.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek with Rev. Barb Koch officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at New Hope Church. There will be no visitation Thursday evening.
