Mildred H Powers

Mildred Helena Hanson was born on September 19, 1923 to Nicoline and Hans J. Hanson in the Lein Township, in Roberts County SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Walla Lutheran Church. She attended Lein Township School #1 for 8 years and graduated from New Effington High School in 1940. She received her teaching certificate from Northern States Teachers College at Aberdeen, SD in 1941. She taught in the Lein Township schools for 3 years then went to work in the Osborne-McMillan Elevator Co. She married Sigurd Olson in 1951 and they spent the next ten years managing O & M Elevators in Minnesota and in North Dakota. They went into business for themselves in 1961 operating the Stanley Theatre in Stanley WI until 1968, when they sold the theater and retired. Sigurd died in 1981. Mildred married Harvey Powers in 1983. They moved from Bloomer to Apache Junction AZ. Harvey died in 1997 and Mildred continued to make her home in Apache Junction. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Mildred died on June 3, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by numerous children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren by marriage. She was beloved for her wisdom, kindness, and compassion that she shared with honorable generosity; a quiet role model for us to follow. A private prayer service and committal will be held at the Copp Cemetery in Jim Falls. Scott Nelson, Mildred’s Grandson, is in charge of arrangements.
