Maxine L. Zwiefelhofer, age 90, passed away on November 9, 2021 at home with her family by her side. She was born on August 7, 1931 in Eau Claire WI to Ernest and Elizabeth (Olson) Topper. She married David J. Zwiefelhofer on November 19, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Maxine was raised on a farm in rural Colfax. In the spring of 1951 she attended and graduated from Luther Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Her father told her that he put her through school to care for people, and that is just what she did. She sat by the side of many people who were sick, having babies or surgeries. Maxine worked as an OB nurse for years until a bad car accident left her unable to continue to carry around the newborns. So strong and determined, she went back to school and worked in Coronary and Intensive Care at Luther until her retirement in 1985. She continued caring for children in her home after retirement. She was also a leader of the Howard Wheaton 4-H club where she taught leathercraft and sewing and was the nurse at Camp Kenwood for 4-H camp. There were many pie and ice cream socials attended. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she held several offices for the Altar and Rosary Society. Her brother, Marvin, created a software program for the cemetery at St. John’s and together they spent months straightening out and plotting all the sites. Maxine was also the author of “The History of St. John’s Church”. Her passion for geneology and history also created family books for the Topper, Olson, Zwiefelhofer and Bleskacek family trees. She spent lots of days at the Geneology Building in Chippewa Falls. She also took a trip with her family members to Scandinavia where she toured cemeteries and had new tombstones blessed.
