Maurietta "Mert" A. Burgess

Maurietta A. “Mert” Burgess, age 91, passed away at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, WI on Saturday, December 3, 2022. She was born on March 6, 1931 in Bloomer to Edmund and Esther (Ruff) Anderl. She was united in marriage to Verlyn Petschow on October 7, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1968. Mert was always busy with activities that tied her to family and community. She enjoyed traveling to visit family, doing crossword and other types of puzzles, collecting owl figurines, and crocheting hundreds of dish cloths. She loved the holidays which was evident by her selling of Christmas cards for over a decade while living in Racine and providing support for the Bloomer Senior Citizens Center by helping to recycle hundreds of Christmas cards for resale. She also liked to read and was an avid letter writer, sending many notes and cards over the years to maintain connections with friends and family. She took pride in a large salt and pepper shaker collection and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Kevin Petschow of Pleasant Lake MI, Bryon (Linda) Petschow of Lafayette IN, Mykel (Petschow) Todd of Eau Claire, Valerie (Dennis) Rubenzer of Bloomer; grandchildren: Jessica (Cameron) Lee, Teresa (Josh) Jones, Zachary (Samantha) Rubenzer, Trevor (Carly) Rubenzer, Tyler (Nicolette) Rubenzer; great-grandchild: Easton Rubenzer; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Ester; son, Todd; and step-siblings, Anne Rowe, Sister Frances Marie Lendle, Louise Miller and Eugene Lendle.

At Mert’s request a brief funeral service will be held at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the South Catholic Cemetery in Bloomer.
