Mary Jo Boardman, age 87, passed at The Deerfield Senior Housing in New Richmond on Sunday, September 11, 2016. She was born on August 31, 1929 in St. Croix County to Benjamin H. and Alice Gertrude (Fleming) Boardman. She was a High School Social Studies teacher in Mondovi for 3 years, Waupun for 1 year, Whitewater for 2 years, Minneapolis West for 30 years, and Minneapolis Washburn for 6 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of New Richmond United Methodist Church, Faith Circle, MEA, NEA, Delta Kappa Gamma, friends of the library, Eastern Star, Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary, New Richmond Preservation Society (Heritage Center) and a lifetime member of Teacher’s Retirement Association of Minnesota. Mary Jo was a proper lady and was very proud to be an American. She was up to date on current events and politics and was always willing to discuss her views. She loved family gatherings and was the Boardman family historian. She traveled around the world to try and see all of God’s Creation. Her final thoughts to her family and friends was, “The gift of life…eternal life…was ours before our birth. How could a gift that’s divine leave us when we leave the earth”
She is survived by her sister: Beda (Tom) Lewis of Inver Grove Heights; sister in-law: Elaine Boardman of New Richmond, numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Ben and Gert Boardman; brothers: F. Keith and Benjamin Boardman; sister: Alice Olson.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the New Richmond United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be in the Boardman Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting family.
