Obituary for Marlin Gravunder

Marlin “Mike” Gravunder, 86, passed away suddenly Saturday, October 17, 2009 at his home in Bloomer. He was born October 1, 1923 to Fredrick and Anna (Oldenberg) Gravunder in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Mike married Mabel Bathke November 16, 1946 in Minnesota. He worked as a mechanic most of his life for the Farmers Store and Swobota Implement. He was a gifted mechanic, spending countless hours helping farmers get their machinery and equipment in working order. Mike was the guy in the neighborhood folks went to for help, or advice. Shoveling snow, a broken lawnmower, or just a helping hand- there wasn’t anything Mike wouldn’t do to help his neighbors, family, and friends. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and working in his yard, hunting, fishing, and loved the peace and quiet of the outdoors. With Mike, family was always first; he cherished spending time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Mabel; two daughters: Carole (Mick) Givens of Sarona, WI, Barbara Gravunder Ihme of Minnetonka MN; four brothers: Kenneth (Frances) Gravunder of Bloomer, Donald (Luella) Gravunder of Bloomer, Duane (Lois) Gravunder of Rice Lake, and Waldron “Billy” (MaryAnn) Gravunder of Stillwater MN, three sisters: Marlene Lueck of Bloomer, Beverly Hyland of Chippewa Falls, Gloria (Raymond) Hughes of Chippewa Falls, three grandsons: Justin (Bridget), Leighton (Mandy), Trent Givens; three great-grandchildren: Chantel, Caelan, Garrett Michael; two step-grandsons, one step-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews, many extended family members, relatives, and friends.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and one sister: Edna Bohl.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Pastor James Strand officiating.
