Obituary for Margaret L. Davis

Margaret Lucille Lodgaard-Davis (a great-great granddaughter of Bloomer, WI's founder Sylvester Van Loon) passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Atrium Care Center in Bloomer, Wisconsin.

Margaret was born on Dec. 4, 1927 to Carol B. Lodgaard and Emma Idella Morley-Lodgaard. She was the youngest of seven children. She attended Bloomer schools and graduated from Bloomer High School. She participated in many activities in High School and with the Congregational Church.

Margaret married Lester Davis on Feb 28, 1948. They lived near Sand Creek where he worked as a farm hand. After a couple of years they bought a farm in the town of Sampson, Chippewa County. They farmed and raised their three children there and later expanded their farm to include land in the town of Birch Creek. They had numerous friends. Their home was a gathering place for many relatives and friends. After Lester passed, she moved to Bloomer. She greatly enjoyed her retirement apartment, especially living next door to her best friend Jean. If the weather prevented them from going out, they would knock on their shared wall to make sure the other was OK.

Margaret worked as a cook for many years at YMCA Camp Manitou. She was loved and respected by all. She was honored for her years of service when Dr. Young built the Margaret Davis cabin. Staff and campers remembered her for her loving heart and great food. After moving to Bloomer, she volunteered as a “Grandparent” at Bloomer Elementary. It pleased her to get hugs from her "kids" and their parents when they saw her around town.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Lester (1991), her sisters Ella, Eva, and Ruth and her brothers Carroll and William.

She is survived by her children: Patricia Short (Lenard Schlais) of Medford WI, Daniel of Lakewood, WA and Sandra (Tom) Meisner of Island Lake, WI and her sister Marion. Her survivors also include Grandchildren Kim, Cindy, Janet, James, Anthony, Milissa, Shannon, Ashley, Jessica, Nicholas, and Geoffrey, her Sisters-in-Law Tressa Davis and Ethel Stanford, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous friends and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bloomer on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM with a visitation from 11:00-1:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
