LeRoy E. “Butch” Philipps, age 76, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Colfax Nursing Home. He was born May 26, 1939 in Port Washington, Wisconsin to Fredrick and Henrietta (Erlwig) Philipps. He married Darleen Baker May 9, 1959 in Port Washington. Butch served in the National Guard, worked as an auto and tractor mechanic and owned a Texico gas station. In 1975 he moved to Bloomer where he owned and operated the Pile Inn, worked at Mid-Am Dairy, was a beer distributor with Vern Seidling and worked for Ron Swoboda Implement. Eventually he opened his own tractor repair company. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing pool, fishing, riding on ATVs, snowmobiling and spending time with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Fredrick and Henrietta Philipps; his wife: Darleen; sister and brother-in-law: Jill and Dick Smith; sister-in-law: Judy Baker.
He is survived by one son: Daniel Philipps of New Auburn; two daughters: Katherine “Kim” (Dave) Sobotta of Bloomer and Sue (Gary) Davis of Ridgeland; brothers: Norman (Carol) Philipps, Lloyd (Marilyn) Philipps, Fredrick “Fritzie” (Gale) Philipps, Kenny Philipps; sisters: Dianne (Paul) Gallun, Judy Johnson, Marilyn Barch; grandchildren: Amber Malinowski, Nathan (Melissa) Abbott, Amanda Abbott, Chad (Heather) Philipps, Becky (Bradie) Johnson; great-grandchildren: Autumn Abbott, Tyler and Michael Philipps, Braxton and Braycin Johnson; step-grandchild: Jamie (Tom) Moos; step-great-grandchild: Austin Moos; step-family: Scott Davis and family, LeighAn Nand and family, Alyssa Nelson and family, Kayla Pederson and family; in-laws: Charles “Buzz” Baker, James (Mary) Baker, Donald (Pat) Baker, William “Bill” (Dawn) Baker; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bloomer. There will be a visitation from 11:00 – 1:00 on Saturday at the church. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
Leroy wanted to spend his last days at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation with the great people there. The family is also thankful for the loving care he received from St. Croix Hospice.
