Obituary for Leroy E. Jeffery



Leroy E. Jeffery, age 92, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. He was born March 7, 1916 in Ruskin Park, near Forestberg SD, to Wilbur & Ethel (Nichols) Jeffery. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the guard which accompanied President Franklin Roosevelt’s funeral train from Roosevelt’s vacation home in Georgia to Washington and then to his burial in the Hudson Valley. He worked at the Chetek Feed Mill and also farmed in the Chetek area for many years. He enjoyed deer hunting, Farming and spending time outdoors.

He is survived by one step-daughter: Rose McCoy of Glenona WA; two sisters: May Horsley Lindsley of Dallas WI & June Gregersen Harper of St. Paul MN; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews & step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Ann; five brothers: Virgil, Marvin, Aaron, Wilbur Jr. & Donald; two step-children: Charlotte Kennedy & Betty Keukowski.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Interment will be in the Twin Lakes Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. There will be no visitation Friday evening.
