Obituary for LaVerne J. Seidling

LaVerne J. Seidling, age 72, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. He was born to Herman and Lillian (Lauer) Seidling on October, 28 1937 in Boyd WI. He graduated from Cadott High School in 1956 and proudly served in the United States Army National Guard from 1956-1958 and the U.S. Navy from 1958-1962. Vern was stationed on the USS Staten Island, an icebreaker, supplying naval bases in Antarctica and the Arctic Circle. He was married on May 16, 1959 to Yvonne Mercier at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Boyd WI. He worked as a plumber and a pressman before purchasing the Bloomer Distributing Co. in Bloomer in 1971. In 1978 LaVerne founded the Champion Auto Store in Bloomer. He loved conversing with friends and customers that would frequent his store. He also worked for Southworth Chevrolet transferring cars for many years. Vern was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Rod and Gun, The Bloomer Moose, The Chamber of Commerce, and served 16 years on the Bloomer Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church serving as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. In his free time Vern enjoyed camping, hunting, ice fishing, playing cards, having coffee with his friends and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his Wife : Yvonne of Bloomer; Sons: Randy (Carol) Seidling of Chippewa Falls, Greg (Valeria) Seidling, of Bloomer Robert (Lauralee) Seidling of Bloomer; daughter Cheryl (Dr. Dave) Helland of New Auburn; brother: Robert Seidling of West Palm Beach FL.; grandchildren: Lance & Logan Seidling, Denise (Tino) Pahula, Mike Seidling, Alex, Alyssa & Alana Aubart, Spencer, Shawna & Sheldon Seidling; great-grandchildren Lillian and Kaytlin Pahulu.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Most Reverend Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum and Father James Arthur. Bloomer American Legion/VFW will provide military honors following the Mass. A visitation will be held at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer from 4:00-8:00 PM on Friday, September 17, 2010 with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 PM. Interment will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 10:00 AM.
