John ""Jack"" Thome

John P. “Jack” Thome, age 78, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer. He was born January 12, 1936 in Rice Lake to Peter and Rachel (Henski) Thome. He married Christine Bailey on April 29, 1967 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rice Lake. He served in the US Army and was a member of the Bloomer American Legion. Jack and Chris owned and operated the Bloomer A & W root beer stand in Bloomer from 1972 – 1992 and Captain Jack’s from 1980 – 1989. He was a member of the Bloomer Chamber of Commerce, St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Knight’s of Columbus. He enjoyed stockcar racing, fishing, camping and was proud of being a Hockey Grandpa. He loved telling a good story and cherished the time he spent with his family.

Jack is survived by his wife: Christine of Bloomer; two children: Rachel (Scott) Allen of Bloomer and Greg Thome of Dallas TX; one brother: Harold (Betty) Thome of West Allis WI; three grandchildren: Alexis Thome , Greta (Michael Gladitsch) Thome and Abbey Allen; one great-grandchild: Nora Gladitsch; special canine friend: Toby.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Rachel Thome; one brother: Arnold Thome; one sister: Helen Bauer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 on Thursday at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 PM. Military honors will be performed by the Bloomer American Legion and VFW following the service at the church.
