Harry R. Harwood

September 21, 1945 — August 6, 2025

Bloomer

Harry Roy Harwood, age 79, passed away at his home, with family by his side, under the care of Mayo Hospice on August 6, 2025. He was born on September 21, 1945, in Cooks Valley to Harry “Roy” and Hilda (Christianson) Harwood. He graduated from Bloomer High School in 1963 then attended Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa, graduating with a degree in social work. Harry honorably served in the US Army as a colonel clerk in Augsburg, Germany from 1966 to 1968. On July 24, 1969, Harry married Linda Clements at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bloomer.

Harry worked at Presto Industries in the ammunitions department, and as a custodian for the Bloomer School District from 1975 to 2015. Harry was a life-long member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer, serving as custodian for over 50 years. He served on the church counsel and was a Sunday School Teacher. He took great pride in his work, ensuring everything was done right the first time and kept neat and tidy. In his free time, Harry had a passion for fishing, hunting, collecting guns and Milwaukee Tools. He enjoyed manicuring his yard and flower garden, country line dancing, attending concerts with Linda, watching westerns, riding motorcycle, and driving his convertible or Ram truck while listening to 50’s on 5. Harry may have had a hard outer shell, but those who knew him understood his unique blend of strength and humor, gentleness and caring heart. Family was important to him; he was proud of his children and grandkids in each of their unique ways.

Harry is survived by his children: Lisa (Mark) Smith of Bloomer, Wendy (David) Kelm, Jr. of Bloomer, Jason (Jill) Harwood of Menomonie and Sherri (Jamie) Sarauer of Colfax; brothers: Arthur (Sharon) of Black River Falls, Daniel Harwood of Bloomer; sisters: Hope (Robert) Fenske of Portage and Joy Saari of Centreville, VA; 17 grandchildren: Breanna and Jacob Smith, Courtney and Austin Flick, Chantel Rogge, Kyndra Kelm, Spencer (Addaline) Harwood, Sawyer Harwood, Montana (Jordan) Mikolon, Arionna Brewer, Taylor, Katelyn, Hayden, Izaiah, Damari, Alizay, and Jace Sarauer; 3 great-grandchildren: Caysen and Macey Flick, and Lincoln Lund; godchildren: Tami Pieper, Holly Fenske, Matthew and Aaron Harwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Hilda Harwood; wife: Linda in 2019; and brother-in-law: Allan Saari.
