Gerald F. Davis PhD

Dr. Gerald F. Davis, age 87, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 at MCHS in Eau Claire. He was born June 21, 1927 in Bloomer to Raymond and Frieda (Sokup) Davis. He married Natalie “LaVonne” Melby on February 23, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in LaCrosse. Jerry served in the US Navy during WWII and was an educator for 42 years. He taught school in Milwaukee, Trempleau and LaCrosse, was a teacher, coach and guidance counselor at Bloomer High School and the Director of the Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling at UW Stout in Menomonie. He won numerous State and National Educator and Counselor awards including being selected for the National Distinguished Service Registry for Counseling in 1990. Jerry was extremely proud of the city of Bloomer. He always said it was a small town with a big heart. He worked hard to get a swimming pool in Bloomer and was very involved in the Veteran’s Memorial. He was active in the Bloomer Chamber of Commerce, the Bloomer Kiwanis, Bloomer VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed doing anything that involved his family including golfing, camping, boating, and swimming. The highlight of his day would be to see his grandkids and great-grandkids.

He is survived by his children: Laurel “Laurie” (Eugene) Buchner of New Auburn, Michael Davis of Cabot AR, Patrick (Marcia) Davis of Cabot AR and Thomas (Carol) Davis of Hudson WI; grandchildren: Jennifer (Rex) Spicer, Ann (Patrick) Rufledt, Mark Buchner, Cory (Gina) Davis, Joshua (Tonya) Davis, Nicole (Corey) Touzen, Alexandra Davis and Trevor Davis; great-grandchildren: Grant, Holly, Violet, Paige, Sydney, Connor, Mason, Cashton, Kayetlyn, Tim, Tete and Trayvius.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Frieda Davis; his wife: LaVonne; one grandchild: Nathan John Davis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 PM St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 on Friday, February 13 at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:30.
