George A. Nelson, age 84, passed away on January 9, 2013 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. He was born on January 19, 1928 in Boyd, Wisconsin to Austin and Mary (Silvernail) Nelson. He married Donna Vetterkind on May 8, 1949 in Rusk County. After her death he married Anna Bailkey on February 3, 2007. He was a jack of all trades working as a farmer, mechanic, milk hauler and truck driver before finally retiring in 2000. He was a hard worker and was very proud of his children. George was a member of the Bloomer Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, camping, traveling, dancing, four wheeling, ice fishing, sharing jokes and stories with his friends and getting together to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife: Anna of Chetek; two sons: Dennis (Lori) Nelson of Bloomer and James (Terri) Nelson of Chetek; two daughters Betty (Steve) Davis of Chetek and Mary (Dave) Tomesh of Sarona WI; siblings: Les (Kathy) Nelson of New Auburn, Richard (Jennifer) Nelson of Chetek, Lynn (Dennis) Trowbridge of Rockford IL, and Lee Nelson on Kansas City MO; nine grandchildren and ten great-grand children; ten step-children, 35 step-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends
He is preceded in death by his parents Austin and Mary Nelson; step-mother: Nona Nelson; wife Donna; infant daughter.
There will be a time of gathering at Chetek Senior Center on Saturday January 12, 2013 at from 1:00-4:00 PM with a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
