Elva “Jean” Hughes, age 77 passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at MCHS Maple Wood in Bloomer. She was born March 23, 1938 in the Town of Big Bend to Thomas and Luella (Gunn) Peaslee. She married Bernard Black and, after his death, she married Larry Hughes on May 17, 2003 at Bethel Lutheran church in New Auburn. She enjoyed Country and Polka music and was an accomplished yodeler. She loved cooking and baking and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughtesr: Lisa (Roy) Baldry of New Auburn and Lori Pickthorn of Clarksville TN; her sons: Carl (Patti Jo) Black of Wolf Point MT and Joe (Diane) Black of Circle MT; brother: Allan Peaslee of New Auburn; sisters: Edna Stolt of Bloomer , Emma Prill of Bloomer and Velva Richardson of New Auburn; grandsons: Brandon and Cody Baldry, Wyatt, Bernie and Billie Jo Black; granddaughters: Brittany (Ryan) Peet, Marissa (Brian) King and Chantel (Jerry) Belt; great-grandchildren: Noah and Samuel Peet, Kaitlyn Black and Micah, Skyler and Nevada Belt; numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Luella Peaslee; her husbands: Bernard and Larry; son: Steven Black; grandson: Tanner Black; sisters: Elora Michels, Esther Stewart and infant sister, Loretta; infant brother: Alvin.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. Jude’s Church in New Auburn with Rev. John Farrell officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 on Sunday at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
