Obituary for Elmer "Amy" Steinmetz

Elmer Carl “Amy” Steinmetz, age 87, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Country Terrace in Bloomer. He was born December 30, 1930 in Chippewa Falls to Elmer C. and Alice (Bekken) Steinmetz. He married Darlene Mickesh on October 23, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Amy owned and operated Steinmetz Food Market and worked for the US Postal Service. He was also a sports official and later kept busy working for IGA and Price-Rite in Bloomer. Amy loved polka music and was a gifted accordion player. The Amy Steinmetz Band or “Amy and the Boys” entertained thousands of people over the years. He was an avid sports fan and loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and was willing to let the officials know if they were “doing a good job”.

He is survived by his wife: Darlene of Bloomer; children: Wendy (Dan) Schmock of Eau Claire, Byron (Christy) Steinmetz of Osceola WI, Nannette (DuWayne Myers) Hartman of Chippewa Falls, Melissa (Terry) Bresina of Holcombe and Chad (Nicole) Steinmetz of Eau Claire; one brother: Wayne Steinmetz of Bloomer; two sisters: Mavis Babbitt of Eau Claire and Jean Lewis of Eau Claire; grandchildren: Nicholas (Carling) Schmock, Bradley (Top) Schmock, Justin (Shondra) Kunkel-Smith, Allison Smith, Nathan (Kayleigh) Steinmetz, Jessica (Kevin) Steinmetz, McGee Smith, Josh (Tanya) Hartman, Rebeka Hartman, Seth (Heli) Hartman, Aaron Bresina, Emilee (Trent) Probst, Sydnie Steinmetz & Halle Steinmetz; 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer (in 1930) and Alice; step-dad: George Kressin; grandson: Evan Bresina; sister-in-law: Pat Steinmetz; brothers-in-law: Charles Lewis and Dale Babbitt.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery at a later date.
