Donna J. Kellen

Donna J. Kellen, age 99, passed away on August 26, 2025, at her home in the town of Bloomer, with family by her side. She was born on July 8, 1926, in the town of Sampson to Elmer Sr. and Helen (Loofbourrow) Nelson. She attended New Auburn and graduated with the class of 1944. On April 15, 1947, Donna married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Kellen. She was a true domestic engineer, working on the family farm with Vernon while taking care of their 8 children. She taught Sunday School and was very active with the youth at her church. Donna was a very caring and compassionate person who could be found leading services at the nursing home or bringing flowers to the shut ins. When she had free time Donna liked making wedding cakes, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her 5 sons: Vernon Jr. “Pat” Kellen, Mike (Patty) Kellen, Dan (Sue) Kellen, Dennis (Vickie) Kellen and Tom (Kathy) Kellen; 2 daughters: Debbie (John) Knight and Mary (John) Ruf; 14 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Joan Erickson, Faye “Dickie” (Bill) Johnson and MaryAnn (Bill) Gravunder; and 1 brother: Jerry Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer Sr. and Helen Nelson; husband: Vernon Kellen in 2011; son: Steve Kellen; 5 sisters: Beth Mares, Judith Mares, Carolyn Martinson, Arlys Mullen and baby Gail Nelson; 2 brothers: Elmer Jr. “Sandy” Nelson, and John “Jack” Nelson; grandson: Mike Kellen II; granddaughter: Denise Kellen; and great granddaughter: Sophie Hoyles.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the New Auburn Cemetery. The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Janice Mikl for all their loving care shown to Donna.
