Dennis L. “Snort” Oldenberg, age 72, passed away at his home in Bloomer on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 after a five year battle with cancer. He was born in Bloomer on July 7, 1941 to Leonard and Velna (Rediger) Oldenberg He married Jackie Prince on June 22, 1963 in Cooks Valley. Snort worked as a truck driver for most of his life and he loved the open road. He was also the owner and operator of Snort’s Bar for nine years. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving, playing cards and spending weekends at Bowe’s cabin. He was a member of the Bloomer Fire Department for several years and a member at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife: Jackie of Bloomer; mother: Velna Oldenberg of Bloomer; children: Mike (Angie) Oldenberg and Brenda Oldenberg both of Bloomer; brothers: Eugene “Buck”, Donald (Kim) and Dean (Luann) Oldenberg all of Bloomer; sisters: Judene (Peter) Friberg of Colfax, Linda (Byron) Motzer of Chetek; sister-in-law: Linda Oldenberg; grandchildren: Jason Oldenberg and Ever McRoberts.
He is preceded in death by his father: Leonard; brothers: Verlyn and Ronald Oldenberg; mother and father-in-law: Gilbert and Leona Prince.
A Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Saturday November 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM. There will be a visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM at the church on Saturday before the mass. Private interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Basu and all the staff at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and the Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice. All the nurses and staff were so helpful and concerned about everything
