David J. Zwiefelhofer

March 27, 1928 — April 11, 2021

David J. Zwiefelhofer Sr, age 93, passed away on April 11, 2021 at his home in Chippewa Falls with his family by his side. He was born on March 27, 1928 in Bloomer to John and Alvina (Pecha) Zwiefelhofer. He married Maxine Topper on November 19, 1952. David was raised on a farm in Cooks Valley. After his 8th Grade graduation he continued farming. He proudly served in the US Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. At an early age, he worked for Polk and Talbot and also for Presto. He also worked for and retired from Pecha and Bleskacek Enterprises, now known as A1 Excavating. He was known as the best bulldozer operator around. David had a meticulous nature in everything he did. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, having drinks and playing cards at local family-owned taverns and was always available to help out anyone. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and drove steam engine in the Bloomer Polka Festival every year. He was typically dressed in his green uniform and his CAT hat and would address you as DOODLER or some “other” name. His pockets were always full of candy for the little ones who loved him dearly.
David was the oldest of 13 children: bothers: Lawrence (Eileen), Richard (Marge), Clifford (Cecilia), Eugene (Suzanne), Thomas (Audrey) Zwiefelhofer; sisters: Cecelia (Ronald) Michaelis, Dorothy (Gorden) Baier, Janet (Alfred) Sikora, Juanita (Alan) Grill, Bonnie (Lyle) Miller, Karen Zwiefelhofer, Pat (Donald) Baker, plus a set of twins who died at birth.
He is survived by his wife Maxine Zwiefelhofer; daughters: Mary (Eugene) Kerckhove, Susan (Keith) Anderson, Alane (Mike) Gilbert, Amy (Butch) Swoboda; sons: David Zwiefelhofer Jr., Glenn (Lori) Zwiefelhofer and Roger (Vicki) Zwiefelhofer; 16 grandchildren: Sarah Boiteau, Brian Sedlacek, Henry Zwiefelhofer, Ryan Zwiefelhofer, Craig Anderson, Stephanie Kempe, Valerie Anderson, Jessica Blodgett, Brady Blodgett, Jessica Gulcynski, Angie Cigan, Kaeli Zwiefelhofer, Kari Zwiefelhofer, Nichole Molumby, Max Gabledon, Samantha Brown; 24 great-grandchildren: Hannah, Megan, Shanna, Autumn, and Dakota Boiteau; Kylee, Payton and Mason Sedlacek; Logan Zwiefelhofer; Pierce and Autumn Anderson; Kara and Brynn Kempe; Quinn and Ella Michaels, Kimberly Blodgett; LaShay Morris; Annabelle and Lydia Cigan; Tucker Gulcynski; Cory, Brooklynn, Abigail, Shyanne Blodgett. 3 great-great grandchildren Aurora Bruyette, Dax Hawkins and Emiliana Boiteau, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: John and Alvina; brothers Lawrence, Clifford and Eugene; sister: Juanita and twins in infancy.
Due to current restrictions a Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Church in Cooks Valley. A public visitation will be held on April 14, 2021 from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Interment with military honors by the Bloomer American Legion a and VFW will be at the Church Cemetery following the service. Online condolences may be expressed at olsonfuneralhomebloomer.net.
