Darlene E. "Dar" Downey (Weiher)

Darlene E. Downey, age 86, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 21, 1928 in Cooks Valley on the Weiher farm to William and Dora “Mamie” (Fehr) Weiher. Darlene “Dar” married Gilbert “Gibby” Downey on September 17 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Darlene was an avid Brewer and Packer fan, enjoyed making cards at the Senior Center, putting together picture puzzles, playing tick, watching birds, knitting dishcloths and playing kitten ball when she was younger. She was also noted for her excellent baked beans, filled date cookies and fried bluegills which she caught at the Marsh Miller cottage.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years: Gilbert; four daughters: Constance Downey of Hancock, Darla (Charlie) Humpal of Downing, Lori (Jeff) Rubenzer of Bloomer and Gina (Mike) Sarauer of Bloomer; grandchildren: Jason Humpal, Heidi (Aaron) Upton, Darcy Humpal, Kelli Rubenzer, Katie Rubenzer, Kevin Rubenzer, Jade Downey, Derik (Liz) Sarauer, Ashley Sarauer, Gregory Sarauer, Rebekah Sarauer; great-grandchildren: Brennan Humpal, Lydia Humpal, Bryce Humpal, Dylann Downey, Kitara Sarauer and Alexa Sarauer; brother: William “Bill” Weiher; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Dora Weiher; brother: Richard “Dick” Weiher; sister: Dona Clemons.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Interment will be in the Bloomer Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 on Sunday at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the Bloomer Senior Citizen’s Civic Center.
