Obituary for Carol J. Mullen (Severude)

Carol Mullen, age 86, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at MCHS in Eau Claire on July 14, 2017. She was born on August 5, 1930 to Albin and Evelyn (Johnson) Severude in Dallas, Wisconsin. She graduated from the Chetek High School and earned her teaching degree from Rice Lake Vocational School. Her career included teaching K through 8 in 1-room schools in Rice Lake, New Auburn and Bloomer. In Bloomer, she also taught 8th grade and ended her career as a substitute teacher. Carol was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer and the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire. She enjoyed watching the Packers and the Brewers, writing poetry, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.

In May of 1951, Carol married Kenneth Gehler and they were happily married for ten short years, before he passed away too young. On November 7, 1964 she married Raymond Mullen and they were happily together for almost 52 years until he passed away last year on September 15.

She is survived by her children: Todd (Phyllis) Severud of Rice Lake, WI, Andrea (Brian) LaBarre of Ann Arbor, MI, Brant (Glenda) Gehler of Colorado Springs, CO, Kent (Tina) Gehler of Bonduel, WI and Tim (Renee) Mullen of Bloomer, WI; ten grandchildren: Craig (Shannon) Severud, Adam (Heather) Marek and Erika (Keith) Julien, Cole (Carly), Zach and Bethany Gehler, Clark (Kathy) and Joel Gehler, Nathan (Kayla) and Travis Mullen; eleven great-grandchildren; brother: Daniel (Valoise) Severude; sister: Avis Carlson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents: Albin and Evelyn; husbands: Kenneth Gehler in 1961 and Raymond Mullen in 2016; brother: Ole Severude; sisters: Ruth Elaine Sanderson and Jean Severude.

A memorial service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bloomer on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12:00 PM with a visitation from 10:00-12:00 at the church. Interment will be at the Bloomer Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family. Memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church are preferred.
