Barbara M. Cutting

Barbara Maryann Cutting, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026.

Barbara was born on September 16, 1933, in Nelson, WI to parents Harlan J. and Margaret T. (Hengst) Sloop. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1951 and attended Luther School of Nursing in Eau Claire, graduating in 1954.

Barbara married Grant O. Cutting on December 6, 1957 in Stillwater, MN. She spent her career working as a Registered Nurse in the area until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls and was an active member with the Quilters and Committee work since 1991. Barbara enjoyed working preparing meals for the church suppers and serving on the Alter Guild. Her main hobby in retirement was genealogy, completing extensive research of both the Sloop and Cutting families.

Survivors include: Two sons: Grant II and Paul (Rose), Five Grandchildren: Rachel (Joseph) Tomczyk, Asa, Grant III, Tilla and Ella. One Great-Grandchild: Maverick Tomczyk. Sister: Dottie Lonsdorf, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: Husband Grant O. Cutting, (2022), Parents: Harlan (1968) and Margaret (1985) Sloop, Daughter in-law: Jennifer Cutting (2024), Granddaughter: Katheryn (2020), Sisters: Margaret Boos (2025) and Donna Tolin (2014) and Brothers: Delmar Sloop (2022) and Walter Sloop (1996)

The family would like extend our sincere appreciation to Mayo Health, Chippewa Manor and St. Croix Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care provided during Barbara’s brief illness. We would also like to acknowledge the kindness and assistance provided by neighbors Loren and Sandy Lueck and niece Emily Bowe.

Per Barbara’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either the Popple Creek American Cemetery or Our Saviours Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. Visitation will be held from 9:00am until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be at the Popple Creek American Cemetery in the Town of Grant, Dunn County. Olson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
