Obituary for Travis A. "Sponge" Michels

Travis A. “Sponge” Michels, age 30, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020 in Eau Claire. He was born September 20, 1989 in Chippewa Falls, the son of Jeannie (Michels) Petska and Todd McIlquham. He graduated from Bloomer High School and worked at A.J. Industries in Bloomer. To say that Travis loved shooting darts is an understatement. No matter when or where, he was always ready for a game. He enjoyed mentoring others and teaching them about the art of dart shooting. He loved being around his friends, having a cold drink and placing the occasional wager. He was an amazing big brother, friend, honorary uncle and uplifting spirit to those who spent time with him.

He is survived by his mother and step-father: Jeannie and Mark Petska; his father: Todd McIlquham; sister: Katie Michels; grandparents: Tom Michels, Mary Iehl and Roxie McIlquham. Aunts: Tonya (Danny Lauer) McIlquham, Karen (John) Taylor, Sharon (Jon) Berg, Connie Beestman; his expansive dart family and fury companions Charlie, Ruby, and Odie; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandfather: Dave McIlquham; step-grandparents: Jeanine Michels and Larry Iehl.

There will be a visitation at Olson Funeral Home from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Friday, June 12 followed by a graveside service and burial at the Bloomer Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Please practice social distancing during the visitation and service. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family.
